Real Madrid vs Liverpool – Who will lift UEFA Champions League Cup?

Bayern Munich, Juventus and Paris Saint Germain, AS Roma, Manchester City and Porto. These are the teams that were defeated by Real Madrid and Liverpool, now 2 of the best clubs of the competition will face each other to become the champion of Europe on Saturday evening.

The two sides reach the final after defeating some of the best teams in the world. However, with 12 titles in their trophy cabinet, the Spanish team appears to be a little more confident than their English counterparts, who have won the Champions League 5 times, with the last trophy won in 2004/2005. Current two time champion Cristiano Ronaldo agrees and believes that Real Madrid is a better side than Liverpool since Real are the 2 time defending champions.

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the key elements of why Liverpool are in the shadow of the Spanish Giants. The striker has lifted the UEFA Champions League four times in his career so far, three times with Real (2013/2014, 2015/2016 and 2016/2017) and one time with Manchester United (2007/2008). If he wins the final again, the Portuguese will be chasing a record of being a six time UEFA winner, the record is currently held by Francisco Gento, the player who has lifted more Champions League trophies than anyone.

Real Madrid Coach Zinedine Zidane will be eyeing his 3rd Champions League title in as many years. He will be aiming to lift his 3rd title to match the record held by Bob Paisley and Carlo Ancelotti.

Meanwhile, the Reds arrive at the final after an exceptional performance by Salah, Mane and Firmino.

In the group stage, Jurgen Klopp’s team finished in the top of Group E of Sevilla, Spartak Moscow-RUS and Maribor-ESL with 12 points and the side hosted the second-best attack of the group stage with 23 goals scored.

In the Round of 16, Liverpool met Porto and demolished the Portuguese champions. In the first leg, at the Estádio do Dragão, the hosts saw Senegalese Mané score three goals and Liverpool lead the 1st leg 5-0. With the qualification in hand, the 2nd leg at Anfield was goalless with a 0-0 score.

Liverpool’s biggest challenge in the Champions League would be in the quarter-finals against Manchester City, who had a spectacular campaign in the Premier League. Even so, the Reds won 3-0 in the first leg. In the return leg, Pep Guardiola’s men took a 1-0 lead but the Reds were having none of it and ended the game with a 1-2 win as Firmino and Salah went on the score sheet.

After defeating City, Liverpool met the surprise of the season AS Roma in the semi-finals, the side eliminated Barcelona in the quarterfinals. At the Anfield stadium in the first leg, Liverpool managed to win 5-2 and sealed their spot in the final after a nervinh 4-2 defeat in the return leg.

Liverpool will be face-to-face today against Real Madrid. The strike force trio of the Reds have scored a total of 29 goals, with 10 goals each from Salah and Firmino, and 9 from Mane. Meanwhile Real have the Top Scorer of the competition, Cristiano Ronaldo with 15 goals.
